My Creative, which has been good until now, will only play off a mains power supply. The battery appears to have gone dead and will not re-charge. Does that mean I have to throw it away, no battery replacement being possible.
Does the same apply to the iPad as I was thinking of buying one.

It may be possible to replace it if you go to a specialist. Try the mobile phone store on the corner of Johnston Road and Obrien Road in Wan Chai. Or perhaps the Wan Chai Computer Centre.
In theory the same goes for an iPad, iPhone, iPod. However those batteries tend to have a very long life and not "age" very quickly. Also, they are replaceable by specialists or by Apple tech support.

Many thanks for the information, which spurred me to google it. There are several Youtube videos showing how to replace the battery in the Zen V plus and Vision M models (amongst others), so it can be done. I would like to see if I can get someone to change the battery for me, but otherwise I will tackle it myself. Finding a battery might prove the biggest hurdle.

You are quite right about the hurdle. In the US you could simply order it online, but not in HK.
