Butcher not wearing plastic gloves for hygene.

I bought meat from the new buthers shop in Caine Road. The buther who served me was an expat and was not wearing plactic gloves when he handled the meat. When I buy from meat from Great or Olivers the buthers there always wear plastic gloves. Am I being paranoid or is this accepted. In this day and age when we are told to wash our hands regulalry and use alcohol cleansing lotions I found it off putting to see a buther not wearing hygene gloves.

Not too sure why this is in the legal forum. Rubber gloves are less hygienic than hands. With hands they are washed regularly, while gloves are rarely changed. Interesting that people worry about this as meat is cooked and any surface bacteria are cooked off. I just hope this type of person never looks in a restaurant kitchen.

I assume you will never buy meat from a local shop (like the ones in Wan Chai road) where the meat is hung on hooks in open shops with cars and trucks passing less than six feet away. :-)

Don't expect to find "foreign" health & hygiene practices in shops in HK, unless of course you want to shop in purely expat places like Great and Olivers, and pay the higher costs associated.

As bob says, don't ever look in the kitchens of restaurants, you will never eat out again!
