Ski Trip to CANADA

Hi

Im trying to organise a special 40th Bday Ski Trip for my hubby (who is an excellent skiier) to Canada (or USA) end Dec/Jan for 2-3 few weeks.

Im only a beginner and my 11yr old wants to learn to snowboard, and then we also have a 3yr old and 1 yr old.

Can anyone please give me some recommendations on where we can go that has that "White Christmas" feel, caters for for an avid skiier like my hubby that is also family friendly, and not TOO difficult to get to from HK (i realise this can be the tricky bit).

Thanks so much for your advice!

Whistler British Columbia! the best by far...It's about 2hrs drive from Vancouver. Lake tahoe is great and has more resorts in a broader area but it's 4-6hrs from San Francisco by car. Or you need to connect flight to Sacamento or Reno to get closer.

Thanks for your replies! We have decided to go to Canada so I will look onto this.

Do you have any comments about the Banff or Lake Louise area?

Thanks again

Hi, we're snowboarders/skiiers who go to Western Canada most years. All the major BC and Alberta resorts have good ski school programmes for children. Of course coastal Whistler is the most well-known but the quality of the snow is not nearly as good as further inland. Big White and Sun Peaks are very family-friendly resorts and would have the 'xmas villagey' type atmosphere (for the 'white' part you have to do a snow dance), for more serious (dry) powder/steeps/trees (but also with classes for you/children etc), Fernie, Kimberley, Red are all good choices in BC though not as easy to get to as the coast. Cheers.

Hey Bear

Thanks for your reply and for the info - yes we've heard similar things about Whistler so we're actually looking at Sun Peaks and Big White at the moment.... although I'll mention to hubby about Fernie and the others... maybe he can go there for a few days after we leave. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply!

We went to Big White a few years ago and the snow was great. It doesn't have the same level as infrastructure as Whistler but it was more family-centric. The disadvantage is the travel and jet-lag, flight to Vancouver, another flight to Kelowna. and then bus to the resort - we had a 3year old which was tough. The advantage wer the activities laid on for kids, huge tube park, kids play rooms, ice rink, sleigh rides, great ski school etc. etc. I guess it would be great for a week after that you've seen and done most of what it has to offer. Definitely Whistler, it's just great and you'll fall in love with it. Actually I came across this website the other day mentioning something about skiing, so here you go! http://datraveler.com/main/theme.php?id=213
