I have a natural straigt, below shoulder lenth hair (asian), i want to have a perm that looks natural. What do you call it - i've searched and they have a lot of names on perm - loose perm, digital perm, soft perm, etc.

Where do you suggest to go and how much would it cost me to have it done? thanks.

in HK they call it digital perm or set perm. i always fly to Taipei to have it done..lasts much longer and cheaper. i spent 3000 on set perm and highlights in hk (Private i) and lost the waves in 3 months.

Digital perms have been around for a long time, most Salons here in HK will be able to give you a very professional service.

Please ask your friends to recommend their favorite Salon or Stylist, and then go and have a chat with them to find out more and confirm that your hair is suitable for this kind of service.

Prices can vary from HK$800 to HK2000, quite often depending on location and reputation.

If you are looking for body and volume, ask for a soft natural perm set on large perm rollers.

What is a digital perm exactly and whats the difference between that and a normal perm? What is the name for the type of perm that alot of women have where they have long hair and very big loose curls at the back. It's been bugging me for a while

Difference between a normal perm and a digital perm

The biggest difference between other perms and a digital perm is the shape and the texture of the wave created by the digital process.

A normal perm, or a “cold perm”, makes the wave most prominent when the hair is wet, and loose when it is dry. The hair tends to look moist and as locks.

A digital perm makes the wave most prominent when the hair is dry, and loose when it is wet. Therefore you can create the dry and curly look of the curl iron or the hot curler. The digital perm requires heat, so it is also called a “hot perm” in comparison to the “cold perm”.

Digital perms thermally recondition the hair, though the chemicals and processing are similar to a straight perm. One's hair often feels softer, smoother, and shinier after a digital perm than before it.

You can not do digital perm at home as you need to have the machine. If you want to do it at home, you could only do "cold perm" which is normal perm. But that can also give you the loose wave.
