Container to Germany

ORIGINAL POST

We will be moving back to Germany shortly and find the prices for a container way to much. A friend has told me that sometimes people offer empty space in a container, so my question is: Is there anyone moving to Germany in the near future and won't be using all space in the container? Thanks for any advice and kind regards MMN

Bruce: you gotta be kidding.

20' container has 33.2 cbm capacity and you can effectively pack apprrx. 28 cbm cargo in it. Where do you get HKD 5000 (USD 639) per cubicmeter price?

Breakdown of apprx. cost is:

Trucking of container in HK: apprx. HKD 1500- 2000

Terminal handling: HKD 2065

Bill of lading & other documentation: HKD 200 - 300

Seafreight HK - Hamburg in October: apprx. USD 1700 (probably less than this)

Terminal handling in Hamburg: apprx. EUR 210

Documentation: apprx. EUR 50

customs: apprx. EUR 50

Now we have a full container released in Hamburg with an average cost of apprx. HKD 630 per cbm + customs clearance which is by shipment and you have HKD 4370 per cbm on hand to handle loading and unloading of container and delivery in Germany.....

Thanks for the offer Bruce but that truly is a shockingly high price! Just for the shipping of my sofa for instance that means I would have to pay approx. 20K and I guess I better buy a new sofa in Germany for that money.

Anyway thanks for your reply!

If there are any other people with ideas or empty container space please let me know!

Thanks a lot!

That is well understood that you try to charge astronomical rates.

My cost breakdown was meant to help IrisMaeder to negotiate a decent rate for her cargo since you, Bruce92, obviously are not the sole provider of such services in HK...
