I am currently looking for a jeweler/goldsmith who can help me re-size some rings, and also some jewelry cleaning.

I would recommend ELLIS jewellers in Stanley (almost next to Pacific coffee) and on Queens Road East, Wan Chai every time.

They have resized and redesigned a couple of my rings. My mother in-law even takes jewellery there when she visits. I trust ELLIS above all others

Where are Ellis located in QRE?

Not particularly, but you could take the ring in and ask for a quote. The ELLIS shop on QRE is virtually opposite the Tin Hau temple.

I had my eternity ring resized, and redesigned after an emerald fell out. Rather than place a different coloured emerald into the setting, I had 5 small diamonds placed into the setting. The gems were then carefully secured into the ring.

I've lost count of the number of times I've had necklaces and earrings repaired. they even take commissions for pieces.

I have been going to Mr Tam for years. He speaks enough English for work needed to be done. He is on Wellington ST. 2544-2462 (I ususally go from Queens Rd C, escalator up to Stanley St. See the famous corner Herbalist shop, go from there to Wellington Street. turn R towards the wet market. Pass the messy hardware stores.

The entrance to his small building (with a doorman) is right next to a cheap supermarket. What you're going to is his workshop.

If you go past the Fruit Vendors, you have gone too far. If lost, Tam can come down to meet you.

Very REASONABLY PRICED

Owns his own workshop at the back of the store - cuts out the middleman.

Comes from a craftman's background. So, he knows about alloys and crafting.

The ONLY one who will REPAIR, Copy, Costume Jewellry items in Central without charging an arm and a leg.

An artist, open-minded to ideas from customers. He even works on silver (artist) jewellry which most jewellers scorn..

He welcomes challenging designs which many jewellery store owners don't welcome or charge an arm and a leg for.

Caters to OL (office ladies. I love this term acquired in HK !) crowd so prices are reasonable. Do not splash your wealthy persona as I want him to think everyone of my friends are middle class with a mortgage.

Does not entertain bargaining. At least I was unsuccessful in huge margin discounts. He will be short and blunt. He is impatient with nickle and dime shoppers.

Enlarge my ring without adding extra gold $200.

His store is being used by many jewellery stores in HK for light repairs. Have seen staffs from stores who need to remove an emerald, ruby, saphire, enroute to get that GIA certificate - they take the ring to him for removal from setting.

And no, I don't work for him :-P
