Any advice in buying something to put inside the cabinet to take away the smell?
Shoes are always cleaned up and aired before putting them into the cabinet but still the smell lingers. Anyone has the same problem?

Most likely the smell is lingering due to humidity. Get everything out and clean the cabinet properly, perhaps with a mild bleach solution. Wash any clothes.
Then put dehumidifying tubs or sachets from the supermarket in there. You should have these in every cabinet and drawer. They'll keep the air inside relatively dry, which is the best way to avoid smell.

Thanks axptguy38. Actually I just got back from Sogo and bought a few sachels of different fragrances. They are quite expensive at $49.90 per piece which they claimed can last for half a year for the cabinets. If this doesn't work, I'll follow your advice and get everything out and clean it properly once and for all. In the meantime, I also bought some Japanese incence sticks to freshen up the living cum dining room as I don't want any odour coming out from the shoe cabinet.

I suspect those fragrant sachets just mask the smell, not eliminate it. Not sure. I would add the dehumidifying ones as well.
