Hi,
My boyfriend and I are planning to be married. We both work in Hong Kong. He has been here in HK for 7 years so he will be entitled to get a HK permanent residence this year and I probably have to wait another 2 years to get one myself.
If my boyfriend get the permenent residence and we get married, I know that I am also entitled to get a dependent visa from him. But would this dependent visa allow me to set up my own business? I know that as a permenent resident, you can set up your own business without involving the immigration office for the work or investment visa..
Kindly let me know.

Yes, after marriage and on your dependant visa, you may set up your own business on the basis of your dependant visa without involving the immigration office. Moreover, depending on which visa you are currently on, it would be possible to establish a Hong Kong company right now, in that, you would not have to wait until you are married and on a dependant visa before setting up the business (this again would depend on which visa you are currently on). If you would like more information about the matter and how to set up a business in Hong Kong please feel free to contact weirlaw@hongkonglaw.com.

Hello,
Thank you so much for this. I am on working visa to HK. So you are saying that there is a way to set up a business without getting the "investment visa"? Thanks. michelle
