What are some good and bad local lifestyle magazines that you guys have subscribed? I just moved here and am looking for a few subscriptions to keep my mail box full and keep myself informed about what's going on. I am looking for stuff like Esquire, but I found out the local version is in Chinese so that's no good.

not to get too preachy this early in the morning, but why not subscribe online...there's enough paper trash circulating as it is...as for your question, can't help you there I'm afraid...

FYI - quite a few publications that block stories with paywalls can actually be accessed through Google News...so you can save on subscriptions.
e.g. see the story that is locked 'Japan's Corporate Savings' on the AWJ this morning http://asia.wsj.com/home-page?reflink=djm_AWSJeaadasiaxpatapr09
Type that into a Google search - select News for Japan's Corporate Savings and you will be able to access the story...
Of course reading from your computer on the bog may not be ideal...

it really depends on what you like, you should probably head to Page One and read through a few before deciding, Tatler is pretty good but it has absolutely nothing on trends, Men's Folio has nothing else but trendy stuff and the entire magazine is pretty much just pictures. There's a really bad one that I fell for and it's called inMAGAZINE. Its website is: http://www.inmagazine.com.hk/. The English part pretty much ends after the cover, the rest of the magazine is just advertisements written in broken English.

I actually prefer paper to online mag and newspapers. Just like there are people that prefer records to CDs and CDs to hard drive music. Some of the freebies are wortha read - HK and the List come to mind. You can pick up complementary copies at the Mix and other places around Central. The SCMP Sunday edition also has a nice insert in well written English. Of course the Chinese mags have much more info about the goings on here.

haha...I just clicked on sefi_ark's link, and saw a picture of a woman in Victorian costumes and the magazine claims it's a fashion statement. This is the most hilarious thing I have ever seen and there's another picture on the front page with the ugliest woman in the ugliest makeup and ugliest clothes. The girls look like clowns. This magazine is so bad that I actually want to pick one up and see how bad it could be.
Thanks for the advice Philly Cheese, but I actually do need to have the magazines delivered because I live in the middle of nowhere.
