Paternity / Legal advice

I’m wondering if someone may be able to shed some light on a situation for me. (I’ve done the morality bit to death)…I went out with someone for a very short time in HK who was from Thailand originally but since moved to the UK for various reasons.

I recently received word from her that she was pregnant (my kid supposedly -paternity test pending)

The mother has told me she wants nothing from me however I have no idea whether this is true or not

I’m quite willing and I’m quite happy to be a father to the child as I believe it’s the right thing to do and I’m in a position where I can do so (albeit from afar) i.e. provide for the child

My reason for posting this is to find out some information. I’m under the impression that I’m under no obligation to have a paternity test or sign the birth certificate. However as previously mentioned I’m quite happy to do this if the child is mine. What I would like to know is what could happen once I’ve done so.

Can the mother then take me to court to seek legal child support or can the court / Inland Revenue department force me to pay child support???.....Once again I’m willing to do this on my own terms but not if I believe she’s simply trying to back me into a corner where she’s after my money…I’m simply trying to protect myself in the event that this is the case.

I’m an expat in my early 30’s

Any information would be most welcome

M.

I suggest to volunteer and pay for a gift from gos that was not chosen to come to this world however someone planned it to you....so just respect this coming baby - if it is your, even if she will not asked for anything.

And yes, if it is your child, she can take you to court for payments any time she chooses.

It needs 2 to Tango... opps... to a baby...
