I like 993 since I was really young, when I saw it on the road that time I think this is the type of car I should own. Time flew, I don't even have a chance to drive one. Recently I saw one really nice & classic. Just for weekend car.

Just want to know should I get it?
How's the maintenance?

993s are good cars. The last of the air cooled...
As with all Porshes, the best ones are the baseline RWD Carreras with a manual gearbox, which this one boasts. I don't like the convertibles myself, they're heavier and lose a lot of chassis rigidity, but then in HK none of that really matters, and it's a question of taste.
Just be careful with the price of spares, thought most cars in HK will have been well looked after. And there's only so much you can push them in 5 mph traffic and on the one 65 mph highway with speed traps every 50 yards... ;)

That point about pushing only so far is a good one. In HK, I'd rather have an agile car than a heavier one with ultimate muscle. Mazda Miata - yes. Bugatti Veyron - no. There are plenty of winding roads with fun corners but few straights.
Scratch that. I'll take the Veyron. ;)

I also prefer Mazdas to Bugattis

"You don't buy cars like that to save cash."
i would argue that you do if you are a poseur scraping every last cent you have, in order to impress other people...

For me fuel consumption won't be a issue because it will just my weekend car.
You should get it.
If you are going to buy a car like that, questions about spares, fuel consumption etc shouldn't be an issue. I remember a friend was considering buying a HK$800k Benz and one of his first questions was fuel consumption. You don't buy cars like that to save cash.

I think I am qualify to advise having bought one 3 years ago. Persoanlly I dont like the converts, but its only my personal taste. 993's are last of the air cools, and they are already becoming a classic of its own. You will feel like you are driving something special once you are behind the cockpit.I dont think the price will depreciate much anymore.
But obviously, maintanance cost will be high. My advice, go through at least 5 or 6 before you buy. I looked at 10, always buy the best one you can afford. Also, look for low transfers and this is a must, buy one that has service history!
Dealers will always tell you they lost it, or no one in HK keeps it. This is BS, a 993 with service records shows the previous owners cared about his 993. good luck

Really? The reason I go for cab because I like to drive to sai kung or stanley during weekend. The feeling is nice espcially for vintage car.
Hopefully I will negotiate the price down close to 300k.
Thanks for your advice :)

There is a co called Road and track and they do a full check on Porsches for a small fee. They take off the fee if you get the car serviced from them. I have used them a few times and they are quite thorough. Most problems can be forseen with proper SERVICE RECORDS for the Immediate past 3-4 years. A full engine service with oil seals , hoses can set you back 35 to 50k . a simple annual service if done properly is about 8-10k with synthetic oils etc. Even a small oil drip can be a result of the V FRAGILE oil seals . The seals are CHEAP but access to them means stripping many bits. As for the roof, the only thing to look out for is the windscreen seals as they can cause water leaks after a while. Not expensive to change . The last thing is the rear PVC window on the conv top. It gets milky or sctratchy after a while. You can get that changend locally.
Dont get FOOLED by the common myth about high owners meaning a bad car. I would rather buy a car with 6 owners and service history than a car with 1 owner and patchy service records. Specially for a Performance sports car.

Do you mind PM me the number for Road and track? How much it cost for the full check the car?
Right, actually I don't really care about all that 0-1 owners, I don't mind if it's over 5-6 owners the most problem is they keep the car well. Thanks for your opinion.

A full check is about HKD 1000 to 3000 if I am right. I'll need to dig out the details but ask 1081 for Road and Track Performance Limited in Kwun Tong. They have been doping Porsches for 15 years and many of their cars are done up for the Race track.
I would NOT BOTHER with an AA type check as they aklways put a disclaimer saying that they can not be held liable if the vehicle has a past accident record that went undetected.

It's worth to pay for full check.
I tried to ring 1081 but they couldn't find me the number for Road and Track Performance Limited.
Right, AA just a joke.

The ask price for the dark blue cab is on the steep side, primarily b/c it is a manual and there are only a handful of 6speed manuals left in Hong Kong now.
I sold my white 1994 cab w/tip earlier this year - new wheels and fresh tires, 33k km, full records for the 11 years I owned it and partial records from prior to my ownership. The car was almost perfect and looked and drove amazing for a 17 year old car. I sold it in the low $300s and I think the buyer got a good deal considering the condition, mileage and records. I've been told the car is for sale again so if you look around and find it and have any questions about it, PM me.
