Nintendo DSlite Discontinued? Go to DSi or something else?

I have been looking for a DSlite for my son for Christmas and have discovered they are discontinued. Is the next obvious option a DSi or is there some other gadget good for handheld games. Some have mentioned an iphone which we don't have and seems complicated but it does allow downloading games from the computer.


Are the DSi games the same as DS games- there are not a lot of games available in HK either.

As far as I know DSlites are plentiful still here in Hong Kong, primarily ones from Korea. (Don't worry bout regions, DSlites are region-free and you can change the language settings.) They're all over the place in Wan Chai, Mong Kok and Sham Shui Po.


The DS/DSlite can play old Gameboy Advance games, but the newer DSi can't. The advantage of the DSi is that it has more non-game functions (camera, planner) and has downloadable applications and games, like the iPhone, but they aren't free. The DSi XL is just a bigger version of the DSi with a bigger screen.


As for games, let's just say that the market for DS games is small here in Hong Kong because piracy on the system is so easy and rampant, and everyone downloads games. Feel free to contact me if you need any more info =)
