I am a lip gloss addict. I typically have several in my purse at any given time. What I have noticed is that my lip gloss develops a strange smell, like it has gone bad, which I guess it has. Recently this happened with a Lancome Juicy Tube after only one month. This has never happened to me anywhere but Hong Kong. Maybe its the humidity. Is this happening to anyone else?

Sooo... a lot of people have viewed this but no one is having the same problem. Hummm, okay. But in case you are (an it may not be just lip gloss), I corresponded with two notable cosmetic chemists in the U.S. (because I am really, really curious) and here is what may be the problem.
1. Most cosmetics sold in Hong Kong are shipped here in containers from North America or Europe. During their trip they are exposed to wide swings in temp and humidity and this could be affecting the product and shortening its shelf life.
2. Oxidation, rather than microbes, was what the likely diagnosis was. Meaning, oxygen reacted with the product and free radical damage occurred (like an apple browning once cut or silver tarnishing).
So, I guess the bottom line is that products in Hong Kong may not have as long a shelf life as those purchased in North America or Europe due to shorter time from manufacture to purchase of the latter.
Hope this helps someone
