Advice for Selling Computers

ORIGINAL POST

Hi everyone,

I have a MAC Book air (not the new one) I'm looking to sell but wanted to get an idea of how much you think I can sell it for? Anyone have an idea? It's quite new, only about a year old. Also, anyone know where I can sell it for the best price?

Additionally, I have two older Macs (both old MacBooks). Any idea what I can do with them? They're quite old.

Thanks!!

For the one year old one, my guess is that you might get half the original price.

You could advertise on this site for example. There are also shops in the computer centers that buy second hand laptops. The older ones are probably a bit harder to sell privately but the shops might take them.

You probably won't get much.

Do/did you have any personal data on the hard drive. Even if you delete it the data can still be read by people with the know how.

I was once advised to remove/destroy the hard drive before selling on a computer. This seems OTT but identity theft is rife in the world today.

IIRC Apple has a secure delete facility on the recovery disk that can be used.

Thanks for the replies! I changed everything on the computer...meaning I replaced the hard drive or motherboard or whatever you call it (you see how tech savy I am?) so it's basically brand new. Although before that, I probably had like five files on it...never downloaded any softwares and didn't really use it much.

Hi

Old computers do not have a lot of value, but I am helping a friend get his life back on track and you might be able to help him out.

He used to have a computer store but he lost his business. He is now doing PC repairs and computer refurbishment. He could really use your old PCs and any other computer equipment you and other readers may have. He doesn't have any capital, but can repay you in kind (PC and appliance repairs).

This is a genuine story and if you are able to help him it would be much appreciated.
