Does anyone know if it is still possible to visit the market? I have read that they allow only 140 people per day...if that is correct how do you go about booking?

Didn't take much googling, Ed! http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3021.html

- I hope you'll come back and write an op ed about the decline of tuna stocks- it's a mind blowing place & you may well come away feeling that there's no hope for the oceans.

That's the angle... just finished off a story on Kenya... next up Yemen... then will try to get to Tokyo to check this out ... good friend of mine retired govt marine biologist from California says that the next generation will likely only eat farmed fish... the industry is gutting the oceans...

thanks for the link

Assuming you've seen the movie, or read the book, The End of the Line? Depressing stuff. Think the author is Charles Clover.

I have read it... and it is very depressing...

Was in Atlantic Canada over the summer - they stopped the fishing their about 20 yrs ago hoping the decimated industry would come back... it has not...

You don't need to book to visit Tsukiji. You can just turn up and have a look around. Although you should aim to get there before 6am and watch out for the forklift trucks.

Make sure to be there at 5:30 where the auction begins and DO NOT touch anything there. Stay behind the lines and don't get in their way while they work. Pay respect - remember, you are a guest in Japan and if you pay respect you will indeed experience best service and best quality from these people.
