sued by Inland Revenue Department

A friend is being taken to court by the IRD for a business registration payment.

If she wins, what are the possible outcomes? Will she just not have to make the payment or will she be awarded compensation for having been wrongly sued?

There is almost nothing to go on based on your description.

Assuming the IRD thinks she owes are payment, but she does not. If she wins, then the court agrees with her, and she does not have to pay. That is all. In order to win any compensation you have to proof a wrongful act (tort) and associated damage. The law suit is not a wrongful act. It is due process.

If she loses, then she needs to pay + penalties if any.
