mobile broadband for gaming?

I just came back to Hong Kong from abroad, and will hopefully find my own place to stay soon. I see that almost all the mobile phone companies now have a system where you can have a mobile internet router in your house, instead of ADSL like Now Broadband. The speed and price seem pretty good to me, but I was wondering if the ping times suffer like for satellite internet? I'd like to be able to play online shooter games without being kicked out for excessive ping.

I'm only a casual online gamer but I wouldn't touch mobile "broadband" with a ten foot pole for that application. Shooter games especially are very demanding of good ping times.

The unpredictability of the connection is far too high.

That's disappointing. I'm not a fan of the wired services in Hong Kong (had some bad experiences with Now Broadband) but I guess once I get my own connection I'll have to get a wired one.

My Netvigator service certainly isn't very "even" in speed but the ping tends to be ok.
