I've been in HK since 2006. None of my previous employers made me pay MPF. I have been with my current employer for a little over a year now and last year, they didn't make me enroll in MPF either. This year, I went up to my employer and told him I wasn't enrolled and I needed to be.
After filling out the paper work, I was told that I need to pay for all of my contributions from last year and they were going to take it out of my next pay check.
On the MPF website, it clearly states that it is my employer's responsibility to enroll me into an MPF scheme.
I guess my question is, if they made the mistake by not performing their legal obligation, why are they taking it out of my salary?
I could understand if they enrolled me last year and I had to pay monthly, but they're talking about taking 5% of my total income from last year, out of one pay check, on top of the MPF that I have to pay for this year.

I called the MPF hot-line before I posted this, and the lady was not helpful at all. She basically kept repeating the same thing: "According to the law, both parties need to make contributions."
I told her that under normal circumstances, yes, but she couldn't tell me anything other than that. She serious kept saying the same thing over and over again.
