water stain on sofa

Does anyone know how to remove water stains from a sofa? we were given the sofa and I'm not certain of the fabric but I think it might be silk given the stain from water.

I tried to steam it out, placing a towel on top and taking a hot iron to that, but I think that made it worse. It certainly didn't make it better.

Any advice about what I can do now? or should I give up and cover it in a throw!??

Thank you.

Thanks for that, but drainage cleaner? the stuff you put down drains and have to leave the room for because of the fumes? Wouldn't this damage silk or upholstery?

Can the cover be removed from the sofa? If yes try to take it to a dry cleaner.

Also, some super markets and home supply stores do sell some upholstery cleaning products.

Thank you, I'll have a look at the supermarkets. Unfortunately the cover can't be removed.

Have you tried dabbin it with white vinegar and a light rubbing around the stain with a plain white bar of soap. White vinegar will lift most stains (like your shower screen etc) The smell will evaporate once dry.
