Best humidifier?

ORIGINAL POST

My two-year-old has had a constant blocked nose for the past couple of months, due to back to back illnesses. We use the saline nose spray and menthol but don't always have much success with these. She's fine during the day but at night time, she snores so loudly and has to breathe through her mouth, so I'm thinking of buying a humidifier - to help her sleep easier.

Anyone can suggest a good humidifier for kids? Can add menthol and is this safe for 2-year-olds?

Thanks!

Had one in the US but can't remember brand. Make sure it has a UV light so you don't get bugs in the water. We never put menthol in though.

We sometimes put mentholatum ointment on the chest. However that is quite strong for a two year old so you can put it on the soles on the feet instead. I know it sounds weird but it works.

BTW she could have a bacterial infection in her nose that keeps producing mucus. These can remain for years. Or she could have a deviated septum from a bump she has taken. Worth taking her to an otolaryngologist to check.

my kid had similar problems. he's ok if we keep him indoors with air conditioner on. (This effectively keeps the air dry like the dehumidifier)

for dehumidifier, I recommend the Whirlpool. I have been using it for last 5 years and it's been a real workhorse

Thanks for the responses. Haven't bought a humidifier yet because I was worried it might make a small room mouldy. But we took her to a doctor to get a referrel for an ENT specialist. The doctor also recommended trying a milk-free diet for three weeks as apparently this has helped other children with congestion and sleep apnea type problems.

Just wondering what other parents have done with children that were constantly congested or had sleep apnea? It could point to a range of things, from allergies, asthma, or maybe just something less serious, like a cold or flu...?
