Moving home

I've lived in HK for almost 7 years and the novelty of the place has certainly worn off. I did my fair share of travel; moved around more times than I can count; met some amazing ppl and great friends; played the field and had a couple of relationships, and while work is going well, as a single woman in her 30's, now thinking of moving home for a different lifestyle and yes, possibly meeting more suitable men.

Just wanted to hear stories of others who made the decision to move home and how it turned out for you (or your friends).

Thanks

This is always hard for expats. To consider

1) You have changed - your friends have not. You have seen many great things and experienced many great things. Your friends still mow the lawns every Saturday, go shopping every Thursday, watch the same TV shows they did 7 years ago etc etc.

2) You will not understand / relate to what some people are talking about. Some things your friends find very exciting will seem to you to be very mundane. e.g. Travel, restaurants, shopping

3) Your friends will not or cannot relate to what you have done in the previous 7 years.

4) Treat going home like arriving in HK for the first time. Drive around and see what is going on. Meet new people, join clubs, see new sites. You will need to reorientate.

5) Do not (or at least try not) to compare HK with your (new) home country. Restaurants, shops, prices, travel etc will be different.

6) Lastly, be very sure you are ready to return. If you are returning becuase you are just tired of HK or returning becuase you cannot do what you want to do in HK, then it may not be any better in your home country
