Dec 31st around 3 pm, I was in SoHo and I saw two managers of a reputed bar in SoHo manhandling a young boy (who I presume is a bar tender of the same bar). I haven't heard or seen these kind of incident in Hong Kong where managers mandhandle and punch their staff on-duty. I can make out they are on duty as it was 3am and all of them were on uniform. After that, all the staff came across and was a scene in soho around esclator at that hour. Now I wonder is it legal for a manager/s to punch and manhandle their staff in Hong Kong?

Thanks guys. I often visit that bar, the most popular n crowded bar on Staunton Street next to escalator. When I witnessed this, I wanted to go and kick their ass; but again, its not my business. So, I wanted to check its legality so I can go back and advise the staff on the steps that can be taken if they want to. Must say these two expat managers doesn't know how to work in HKG. Lucky that they were not in Wanchai. I can imagine what would have happened if they did the same in Wanchai.

Small point, but how do you know the managers were "expat"? Doesn't excuse their actions, though, which I'm sure would be looked upon as criminal acts. Did you approach the victim with advice? My experience with things like this is that usually 'the little people' choose the abuse over losing the job...until it gets to be too much and they snap. Very sad.

I know they are expat coz I said on my earlier post that "I often visit that bar". Well, dunno wots the update now and its already off my mind now.

Actually, Smartone, for your information, what you saw was the managers interceding after the person in question had punched a female in the face whilst he was on duty. So always two sides to every story so you mustn't rush into making judgments before knowing all the facts.

Aren't we lucky to have the likes of Smartone to police and report what's going on in Hong Kong's bars. Unfortunately for us, Smartone seems to have lost interest now - its (do you mean it's, Smartone?) already off his mind now. No doubt he's off to enjoy himself somewhere else. Here's a thought, Smartone - take a holiday and mind your own business. Cheers!
(I am based in Hong Kong)
