Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help offer some advice - I have dark brown hair and am going prematurely grey (I'm not yet 30!)
Unfortunately I am allergic to hair colour - breaking out in large red itchy bumps all over my scalp. The itching is driving me crazy! I've tried having the hairdresser apply the colour on foils, as if he's doing highlights to avoid colour touching the scalp, but it doesn't seem to work- I still suffer terrible reactions.
Organic colours don't make a difference as the chemical PPD, aka Paraphenylenediamine (that gives dye its dark colour) is present in all dyes.
If anyone has any suggestions I would be so grateful. I really don't want to have to go grey. I have yet to try henna as I don't want red hair, but I have read there are ways to make it naturally darker.
Thanks in advance for any advice you might have.

Please try henna. There are different types of henna. For Hair there is black henna. To make the colour darker, there are many methods, don't know which works. Some say that you need to soak henna overnight in an iron vessel and put coffee. I would suggest you go to an Indian Beauty parlour and ask them to do for you. Don't forget to ask for 'black mehndi'. Also results take time...
Also if u r not yet 30 and going grey, I think you need to check with a doctor unless its hereditary..

Hi,
I also suffer from a hair dye allergy. If I have a patch test then I have a really really bad reaction, however if I have foils (Highlights) then it is ok, but I go lighter not darker. You could try going lighter?
There is also a PPD free hair dye which you could try, although it does not last long and washes out every few weeks. You can find it if you search for it on google. However at least this is better than going grey early!
Hope that helps?!
I would be careful with Henna, that is how I first developed my allergy.
