Cara. unfortunately he cannot go the FDH route, unless the rules have changed, and I don't think they have. To be eligible to come to Hong Kong as a FDH, you have to show that you've worked as a FDH for two years previously.

Really? Then how do all the ones with no experience come here?

Why think illegal? Think legal. Start a Thai interiors business and apply for an investment visa, and on the way to PR too (rather than always being a helper – imagine how great that would be for a relationship). Presumably the Dr can employ him for a project to prove a business case, even if you wouldn’t. Someone is going to need to put up some cash though for the business. Lots of legal and finance issues to consider. And keep in mind that he can’t be much worse at his job than some of the cowboys already in town.

Xpatguy38, they must have produced to Immigration Department a work reference from a previous employer saying that they've worked for them for at least two years. I'm sure it's open to abuse, but that's what Immigration ask for.

Same rules apply for a driver as they do for a FDH I'm afraid. Best thing to do, in my opinion, would be to find a job for which he is qualified in interior designing.
