Hair friendly alternative to traditional dying

ORIGINAL POST

I've been dying my hair at salons and at home using dye in a box for about 10 years now.

I'm starting to become worried about the possible health effects of this practice.

I recently heard though, that there are some new dyes that are friendlier on your hair- not henna but something else.

Has anybody tried this? Does it last as long as the regular dye? And, any recommendations for a place to go- not too $$$ on HK island?

Thank you.

What colour do you dye your hair? If you bleach it a lighter shade then sorry I can't help, but if you want to make your hair darker (e.g. to hide grey) then I'd suggest you try Henna Plus Colour Cream. It's not the messy henna you might be thinking of; it's a normal colouring system just like Castings or whatever, but with less chemicals, and available in permanent and temporary in brown, dark brown and black. There's no mixing with the temporary one, it comes in a tube that you simply squeeze on, spread in and leave for a while. Pack says (well, it would, wouldn't it?!) that it conditions hair, but it doesn't have any ammonia or peroxide or, apparently, other harmful chemicals (see other concurrent post on allergies to hair dyes) that other makes have so it could be worth a try. Fanda in World Wide House sells it at $63 a pop. I'm using it until something better comes along - would be interested to hear of any other 'healthy' ones to try.
