Thinking of getting one. Which do I need. The 3g one ?
Also can I buy in hong kong island ? From bookshop or do I have to buy from Amazon. ?
I don't know much about them. Is it easy to buy books ? Does it matter that I live in hk. Can I access the books in the American shop ?

You must buy the Kindle from Amazon US if you live in HK. Free shipping though.
Buying books/magazines/newspapers is dead easy. You can do it through a browser just like any other Amazon book or with the Kindle itself. Delivery takes about one minute regardless of where you are in the world. You can buy books from US or UK Amazon, depending on where you have an account.
You can also buy books from other publishers and transfer them via USB. Finally, you can transfer pretty much any document format to the Kindle. For example PDF and Word documents.
All Kindles now have WiFi. 3G is a bonus and can be useful if you travel a lot and download magazines/newspapers in locations without WiFi. Personally I don't have the 3G version and I don't miss the feature.

funbobby is right. Unless you're particularly enamored with the Amazon catalog, there are many options. I, however, AM enamored with the Amazon catalog so it is just incredibly convenient.
