First of all, Partition Magic doesn't work on Vista and 7. On the other hand, Disk Management is way more capable than in XP. Right click "Computer", then select "Manage". Then go to "Storage" and finally "Disk Management". Lots of functionality if you right-click on the disks and partitions.

Another tool that I haven't tried myself but seems like it has some neat functions: http://www.partition-tool.com/resource/resize-partition-windows-7.htm

i followed your instructions. i got to where i need to be but i still can't figure out how to make a new partition. it also shows "system" here next to C. when i am using my pc in regular mode i can't see this "system" partition. maybe it doesn't matter one way or the other.

anyhow, C is 911GB i could probably make one or 2 more partitions from that. but my pc windows is chinese. even though it is a language that my wife understands its still tech ese. i am sure i would be just as confused if it was in a language i am comfortable with as well.

The "System Reserved" partition is new for Vista and 7. Whatever you do, don't mess with it because the machine will not boot. It is not usaable for storage.

Is there any non partitioned space on your drive? If not, you need to right click an existing partition and select "Shrink Volume" first to make some space.

Question: Why do you need more than one partition?

i download tv and/or movies and then i transfer to a usb or portable hd and plug into my tv or dvd player. i just thought it would be safer to have a partition dedicated to this. i just always assumed it was safer/secure to save these kinds of files or any other files to a disk space (partition) that was not system or C. i've been using the free space in my system recovery (D) to download tv. but that free space isn't as large as i would like it to be.

No safer or more secure. It's the same physical drive after all. Nowadays corruption that will completely prevent access to data on the system partition is unlikely.

Personally, I'd much rather have all that stuff on a USB drive, or on a NAS.
