Sounds just like the Lily. It's like trying to get into a maximum security prison with clueless guards!

We lived in the Harbourside when we first moved to HK 6 years ago, and loved it. We were one of the few people there at the time, and as more people moved in the renovation noise was unbearable.

I have a friend currently living in the Harbourside who moved from a harbour facing apartment to one at the rear, mainly due to the noise of the development work going on by the waterfront. (The train link etc)

She now has a family living in the apartment above hers, who's children like to run around screaming at 7am (as kids do!!) and also appear to roll marbles along the floor at every opportunity... The noise travels in these high rises, and it's just luck of the draw what neighbors you end up with!!

But, the location is great, the staff are very helpful, and the Club facilities good. The security IS tight, but I guess that is maybe because of the calibre of the residents... ;-)

We moved in to the Harbourside a week ago, so are still finding out all the ups and downs of living here - this is very much a first impression.

I am not very happy about the level of noise from the surrounding appartments. Like the previous post from Butternut, we have marble-playing, stomping young elephants above us and a yappy dog next door - the noise carries so much, I thought someone else was in the flat with me at first and I could almost follow the conversation of the neighbours dinner party last night. I'm hoping that we can tune it all out soon, otherwise it might be a short stay!

We've also been used to living in a local community where everything 'domestic' was readily available. You can certainly access the designer shops from here, but try finding a laundry or a shop to buy a plastic bucket! The security has been tight, but to be fair they have also been extremely friendly and have gone out of their way to try to make life easier with the million tradesmen/delivery guys that come calling when you first move in.

The up-side is the convenience of the location for transport, the fantastic views and the space we have. We are on a higher floor so haven't been bothered by the noise of construction. I think the Arch and Waterfront are more directly affected.

Looking at this feedback, it appears pretty negative - this is possibly due to all the hassle that moving and finding your way around a new area can bring. On the whole I think we will be happy here as long as we can get used to the greater levels of noise.

Hihi ..We are living here already 5 years but never lived in the town and wanted to experience it because of the great food delivery options, supermarkets etc..Its sad but there is no midrise apartments and no beach houses ;(( the noise level would drive us insane..even we own an appartment and our building is also very pet unfriendly it just takes 2 complains and they need to be removed..:(( so thats not an option for us then..buy buy harbourside..

I read sometime ago in the SCMP that modern buildings are nosier than older. This is due to more advanced building methods that require less cement hence thinner walls/floors. The noise factor was never considered.

Thinner walls/floors also increase the actual usable living area percentage, so these apartments cost more due to this larger actual usable living area. Older building were very low living percentage but were constructed differently and are less noisy.

I also read that higher floors are nosier than lower floors due to the higher the floor - the thinner the floor construction. Thinner floors mean more noise for the apartments below.

Ironically, one inch of actual insulation in the walls would decrease noise dramatically and lower electrical bills.
