Hello. Just wondering if anyone could tell me when their child stopped napping. My daughter is now 3 years-old and I was wondering if she still needed to nap. When she is out with me, she can go without a nap but gets more irritable in the early evening. If I put her down for a nap, she quite easily falls asleep. Is the irritability a part of the process or is that a sign that she still needs her nap?
Thank you in advance for your feedback. : )

At around 2½, but it is very variable.
I think the irritability is just part of the transition. ;) Try making the nap shorter and shorter and perhaps temporarily putting her to bed at night a bit earlier.

my daughter at just over 2 does not nap most days, but hardly ever has, she usually goes to be very late and wakes up relatively early. just the way she is.
she is irritable without the nap though, she still needs that nap i think.
but we go along with it, unless it is a major disruption to your schedule etc, i would think there is no harm in letting her when she wants to or can.
when school etc makes this impossible, problem solved.

Thanks both. In the school she is currently in, if she stays the whole day, it would mean that she had naps until she was 5 or 6 years-old. I have had friends tell me that their child stopped napping at 2 and others that stopped napping at 4. Just wondering if I should transition her out. Whether she napped or not wouldn't interrupt my schedule but when she turns 3.5, she will be attending an afternnon kindy so napping will be harder to schedule. I guess I'll let her have her naps till needed until September. Thanks so much! : )

Thanks Cara, sounds just like my kids. I thought my daughter would have a much better sleep at night if she stopped napping but it was the complete opposite. My daughter kept waking up and couldn't sleep. Today, both son and daughter had a nap and they are now sleeping like logs. Guess I'll keep the naps for now. : )
