FS has U-turned, now PR I/D card holders get $600 cash each (not per house hold) and a tax rebate of up to $6000. It seems much better for teh economy then putting $6000 into MPF accounts, so people can use the money now. However, it does mean that those who don't work get money as well, it that fair?

Is this for every ID card holder or just for those that are PR's? Is it for every person or just those that are below a certain income bracket?

Just PR over 18 for the cash back. I assume the tax rebate is for all ID card holders who pay tax over the threshold.

I would have thought it was for those that work or pay tax only. For those that don't work I'm sure it will be an early Christmas.

there are 2 components :
1) cash back for all PRs over 18
2) Tax Rebate for those that pay over a certain level of tax
an new iPad 2 for many

Has anyone heard / read how this will be distributed? Registration?

Also does anyone know if the 6,000 cash back will be given to ALL Permanent Residents or just those with 3 stars on their HK ID card ?

It will be interesting to see if the many, many overseas' PR will qualify for the cash back. They still hold PR but are no longer present in HK.

from the standard:
A source said the government will use a lenient approach on how to define "permanent resident."
too bad I'm 4 months away from qualifying...

domestic helpers who have been working in hk for more than 10 years but because they are not given pr status they lose out on getting this dole out
