The old HK chestnut- flat two floors below is being gutted & I swear they're jackhammering every room at once. I can hear at least 2 different devices going at any time, can not make phone calls and when I stand barefoot in the kitchen I can feel the floor vibrating! A little scary....
Having lived through many renovations, I can say this is by far the loudest - I called management, who of course said they'd check the noise levels & get back to me. Is there a legal decibel limit & if so which govt. dept. would be in charge? Anyone ever had any success taking on the renovation monster?
My teeth feel like they're about to fall out of my head...

afaik, there are no noise pollution rules in HK. just what ever the building mgt decides to restrict on when they can do the renovations.

well, looking at it another way, maybe with 2 jackhammers going at once, they'll finish sooner?? ;-)

It's one of those HK things, for better or for worse. Right now it sounds as if the apartment above me is being sledge- and jack-hammered into oblivion. I'm just waiting for the ceiling to fall down on top of me.
As funbobby says, the more jackhammers the better. Get it done.

Management more or less said the more the better- I told them not if I can't speak.. I had to yell at them to be heard on the phone... they suggested I stay out of my home till 5pm every day - I asked if they'd be sending me coupons for Starbucks, since I get home around 3.30 most days.... good luck axptguy - I won't be popping round for coffee with you!

That's the way it is - live close to so many people, noise is going to be a factor. Lots of overseas people don't realise it until they get here how it affects them. Some are fine and deal with it, others complain. It's not going to change so you might as well deal with it as soon as possible.

This is part of HK, comes in a package.

I agree 110% with madtown. Could not have said it better myself.

Well, like I said to management, I've been here 15 years, of which 8 in this complex and 5 in this flat, and this is the first time I've felt the need to complain & the first time my kitchen floor has vibrated- people live on top of each other in lots of big cities- we never had this problem in Tokyo or NY. Or am I just getting old? ;(
Good call madtown- not paying anywhere near $40K, so Bali's looking good!
Anyway, down to a low buzzing today, like sticking your heard in a beehive... thanks for the sympathy all!

Ha ha, now the neighbours' kids are running around yelling - not sure if they're in the hall, or got their door open or just really loud. 28,29,30, coming ready or not...

Wow 15 years - thought you would get used to it by now since you haven't killed yourself or anyone else. They make noise cancelling headphones,
