I see in the press that Mini-bond speculators will get 96.5% back. Can the Jockey club please reimburse me 96.5% of all the Mark-six and Gigi bets I lost over teh past 30 years???

The bet is very safe but the outcome and dividends are not

I've read just about every book out there on the financial crisis and what some of these banks were flogging on unsophisticated (and sophisticated investors) amounted to complete and utter fraud.... why nobody is in jail is beyond me...
Pick up Joe Nocera's All the Devils are Here for more on this...
I guess if you think that the Jockey Club is fixing races then you do have a case... but you have to park out front of the HQ in Happy Valley and bang a gong while shouting Devil Club... Devil Club for months if you want relief... I have to say - I was amazed at the perseverance of those pensioners who camped out front of citibank broadcasting Devil Bank for the last couple of years...

JC don't fix races but they certainly fix odds so that they are garuanteed to win same with mark-6

Investing is gambling, buying bonds is investing not saving. All investments carry a written caution and I doubt these were any different. Imagine asking the Lisboa for you money back on exit?

I'd assume they know they would lose if it went to court so they settled... if they had legal documentation (with clauses...) surely they'd not agree to settle...
Or perhaps management tired of hearing chants of 'Devil Bank' accompanied by banging gongs as they arrived at the HQ each morning?
