Need to insure our belongings. Made up primarily of clothing, min. kitchen appliances, TV, dvd player, computer...

Accommodations are serviced.

The insurance provider has said we need to get extra coverage for any items used outside of the home for an additional premium. Items include laptop, birding scope, binoculars, camera ....

Is this "usual" coverage here?

Thank you.

Hi Cat,

There is an option for covering your items outside of the home for an additional premium. It's a usual option featured on contents insurance here but it is an option so it's up to you whether you buy it or not.

However, you'll need to check the value limits, excesses (if any), and exclusions that apply to the insurance before you buy it as, for example, they might only insure your computer for up to HK$15,000 and have a HK$500 excess on it, or some insurers don't insure laptops, or others will exclude theft where there's no visible sign of forced entry.

If there's something particularly expensive or that you specifically want insured you can get it added on, for an additional premium.

Hope that helps.
