Single female looking to move to HK in end of May.
Should i be worried as ideally looking to find a place to stay once in HK. The only reason am doing it this way is so I can actually see the hostels to make sure i am getting a clean/safe/cheap place to stay for the first few months before looking to rent.
If anyone has any first-hand recommendations would love to hear them as money is tight.

A few years ago I stay at a hostel called 'yes inn' and it was very nice in an IKEAish kind of way. They have a few locations on HK side, you can check out their website for details. You can book online, etc. Not sure what your definition of cheap is, but it's very safe and the staff (when I stayed) was very friendly. I stayed in a double bed unit for only a couple of weeks before switching to a self-contained unit so I didn't meet/see many other guest. The ones I did see seemed okay - young, on budget, backpacker types.

hong kong is ridiculously expensive but you may have luck finding room to rent on this website or on gumtreehk but beware of fraud and maybe posting that you are not a single female traveling to hong kong in postings as it may make you a target to creeps. creeps looking to help the single female traveler in need. there are a lot of hostels online but as for if they are nice/clean or not i am not sure. soho is where alot of the westerners live, hollywood rd and the areas by the beach tend to be safe. Hong kong seems to have very little crime so I think you should be fine just obviously always follow your gut. god gave us a woman's instinct for a reason. my suggestion is to use it. listen to it at all costs and generally a good rule of thumb is if it seems a bit too good to be true it probably is. especially when its a single male trying to "help" out a single female traveling alone. good luck x

Yes ..., It is official.... HK is one of the safest Capital Cities in the world along with Tokyo . Pick pockets or leaving your handbag unattended is the worst you would experience , otherwise inappropriate and suggestive language directed to you (only in some areas) is as bad as it gets so you are safe . I can recommend MongKok Hotel on Nathan Road in Mong Kok as a personal friend of mine and this owner (Chinese and no English knowledge) has 3 Hotels / Guesthouses in this same building so he should always be able to find you a room if you are travelling back and forth . I am HK resident and did the same thing you are doing . Share is a good way especially if you want English speaking flat mate and ready furnished as well . Good luck .
