Hi!

I would love to know how many parents in HK use or are interested in using cloth nappies with their children.

If you don't use them but would be keen to try them what fears/issues/questions do you have about trying cloth nappies?

If you do use them, how easy/hard are they to get in HK?

Thank you!

I use cloth nappies but I had them shipped from the US because the range in HK is not very good.

Hello

I used cloth nappies for my first son for two year. I used Bumgenious and bought them from this Macua website: http://www.doubibou.com/shop/ I am very happy I used them. I intend to buy them again with my second son (2 months old) when things settle down and my first son is potty trained (we don't have the washing capacity to handle two cycles of nappies at once!).

The main issue I had was working out the best wash cycle and detergent to use. After some trial and error, I settled on Ecocover and the longest wash cycle possible on my machine. An important key to keeping them in top condition also is being able to dry them in the sun. The sunlight really helps smell nice, gets rid of any residual smell and kill any lingering bacteria.

If you are interested in cloth nappies, I would really encourage you to take the plunge. It really isn't that much work. If you are doing it for environmental reasons, it is really worth it.... I am currently into my 2nd month of disposable nappies and after seeing how many plastic nappies I have already generated, I can't wait to start using the cloth nappies with him (hopefully in a few months).

Good luck!!

Thanks for your replies!

The reason I am asking is that I am a cloth nappy mum and I want to start my own cloth nappy distribution business as like CF said, the range in HK is appalling!

judithoj, a tip for your washing - use the least amount of washing powder possible and no softener. If the nappies are not too dirty you can definitely wash the, at 30 C and a quick wash (ours takes 30 mins and they come out new!). I'm also hoping to stock Rockin' Green laundry powder which is perfect for cloth nappies.

Do you think there would be more Mums and dads interested in cloth nappies? I think there are so many advantages of using them and no disadvantages in my eyes so I think it will just take time to educate the masses of how wonderful they really are!

Thanks again!

Hi Rooj

That's great news!!! Good luck with your new business. I hope it's a big success. I find Hong Kong is such a disposable society so it's great that you would be pushing cloth nappies. I was quite shocked (and disheartened) the effort/process it took me to buy my set - firstly, to track somewhere down and then to have to buy them online from Macau. Shocking! Hopefully you should have some success with Aussies and Kiwis as I know cloth nappies are big in both those countries so there are probably Aussie and Kiwi mums you could win over quite easily.

Thanks for the tip on Rockin-' Green.

Good luck again!
