My best advice to you guys would be, travel 5 star only!

My wife and I travelled around in Rajastahn Province for 2 weeks and found out that it's either 5 star hotels or 0 star - there is nothing in betweeen that's good enough. From Delhi Airport to your hotel, book a hotel car only - do not even trust the pre-paid taxi service from traffic police or anything else.

For Taj Mahal, my suggestion would be to see it at the end of your trip - it's a beauty and it's nice to finish your trip with a good memory. Go there to see the sunrise. Oberoi Hotel is walking distance to both ticket office + Taj Mahal.

Hi,

My wife and I just returned from New Delhi and i agree with the previous posts on the 5 star safety aspect and would highly recommend The Imperial in New Delhi as it is located in the city centre, but has a resort feel. We booked our stay over The Collektion and they upgraded our room when we mentioned it was for our anniversary, so i think same can be arranged for your honeymoon. Just in case you would like to have a look at the hotel, www.thecollektion.com

Enjoy Delhi

I did backpacking by myself in India (including Delhi) few years ago for a short trip. It was a crazy and adventurous one as I've been through all those receiving fake money, sexual harrassment, stalking and ripping off.......

Same as others' advice, make yourself always a 5-start tourist in India - Best food, best accommodation, best tours if what you want to see is only the beautiful side of India. Then you will be safe from, walking the dirty streets filled with animal feces, from seeing people (including kids) standing on rubbish hill looking for valuable stuff, from the death of electricity shock by electric rod which is used for heating bath water.

Enjoy the architectures which are truly fascinating though. The shawl is a must-buy, always always bargain hard.

BTW, there might be a guy following you to offer tour guide service of Taj Mahal at bargain price, just ignore him because there should be some offiical free service inside after you've entered. Not sure if it's still valid, you'd better check it out.

In any time, NEVER TRUST anyone coming to you who seems so sincere and hospitable when offering you a good deal, wherever you are in this country.

But no guarantee against diarrhea though, because that seems something unavoidable even you eat in hotel. 9 out of 10 would have some some sort of stomach upset there. =P
