Arrived in hk as a spouse of PR resident.
Currently abroad but plan on return to hk before 3 yr visa runs out.
Been on the hk visa website but no info on how to get this renewed/extended.
Can't remember what info I took to immigration when my first 1yr visa ran out (dont think they asked for anything actually) but I think they just gave me my 3 yr one on the same day!
Can someone tell me what info they'll need (if any), ie proof of address/bills/employment contract etc. and what if i cant provide these as have been living abroad with hubby for last yr due to family illness.
Another issue is whether I tell them my husband and I have talked about separating for a while when we get back to hk (possibly a month/two) as things not going too well at present and feel we need a break (hopefully not a permanent one though!).
Any guidance/info appreciated.

SK76,
It doesn't matter that you have been living abroad with your husband for the past year, as long as you renew your visa before it expires you should have no problem getting it renewed. They don't want to see proof of bills or anything like that for an extension visa. But your husband has to sign a form to say that your marital status has not changed.
If you're still together you won't have a problem, but if you both sign and say that you're together when you're actually apart, what you're ostensibly doing is making a false declaration which is very serious and if you get caught you will be prosecuted. In other words, make sure when you apply you are still together and do not separate until after you get your new visa. Of course, once you do separate, you will not be able to get a further extension next time unless you lie about it which I don't recommend you do.
Good luck and I hope you and your husband are able to resolve your differences and hopefully stay together.

Thanks Shoe Girl,
My husband has said he will sign the forms but when we apply we will be living apart - that is to say I shall be staying with friends until we try to work things out.
I don't want to do anyting illegal but obviously need the visa extended. What I dont want is for them to find out we are living apart and then get into trouble for it as it will be me in trouble (can't afford to pay any fines and certainly dont want to be jailed) as my husabnd is HK PR.
I have also been thinking about whether to get a job that will offer me sponsorship (am qualified tefl teacher) and that way wont need to get the visa extended and can get employment visa instead - then when/if we work out our differences, can then just apply for a new dependant visa again (and wont be lying about being under the same roof!! just confused at the moment really:(

Have decided to tell immigration that we are momentarily living apart but aren't planning on divorcing so our marital status is unchanged just not living under same roof for now...and will see what they have to say when i go to their offices.
Am not bothered about renewing dependant visa, just dont wish to do any wrong!
Thanks to all who tried to advise.

Based on personal experience, if you tell immigration you are separated they will NOT renew your dependent visa. I am not sure they will accept your explanation that it is temporary. You will just have to try. I would recommend that you also look for an employer to sponsor you as a back-up plan.
