at&t wireless is the wireless provider exclusive to iphone in the states. they have a promotion now for iphone gs for $49. do you think it would be for the most current one? i guess it doesn't matter much i just need to know how to use it in hk & china. i know u can buy them in hk or china ready to use with the local wireless services "jail broken". could you tell me how to do it myself? i will also talk 2 at&t 2 c if i can subscribe 2 a wirless service in hk or china thru them.

iPhone 3GS is the previous model. The current model is iPhone 4.


iPhones bought in Hong Kong are not locked to an operator so don't need to be unlocked to work with another operator. However I believe US GSM iPhones are locked to AT&T so you would have to unlock the phone to make them work with a local operator. If you google "unlock iPhone" you'll find plenty of procedures, all of which will void your warranty.


Jailbreaking is not the same as unlocking. Jailbreaking involves cracking the operating system so that you can use apps not from the iTunes App Store and also reconfigure your phone operations in various ways not available in the original OS.
