XP Total Security Scam - Help!

I have been duped into getting XP Total Security -a fake anti-malware program.


How bad is it?


How do I remove it?


Anyone else experienced this?


I am not a techie - any advice greatly appreciated - simple layman's terms please.

That thing is a real pain. You can take it to an expert but removing it isn't inhumanly difficult.

Once you're done, I recommend getting a good free antivirus like Avast Home. Avoid Norton Antivirus like the plague unless you want to slow your computer to a crawl.

When ever I find avast on machines I remove it and install Microsoft Secuirty Essentilials. MSE can find 3 to 5 viruses on the machine after you have uninstalled Avast.


The only reason to run avast is if you are running old machines like Win2K or old WinServer and too old to be supported by MSE.
