The ease or difficulty depends on where you move from.

You should start at the AFCD page on Pet Importation. http://www.afcd.gov.hk/english/quarantine/qua_ie/qua_ie_ipab/qua_ie_ipab_idc/qua_ie_ipab_idc.html .

This being HK, you can of course get someone to do it all for you. We used George Yung of International Pet Travel (9135 5233; george@internationalpettravel.com; www.internationalpettravel.com ). George’s service was excellent. He did everything from going to AFCD to arrange the permit to picking up the dog at the airport and delivering him to our door. Call George well in advance.

And once you are here:

- Pet supplies:

o Stanley Pet Station. A great shop with great staff. They have leashes, bowls, food, toys, nail clippers, mattress etc. You can order food for delivery. G/F, Shop B; 10 Wong Ma Kok Road; Stanley

o Whiskers ‘n Paws. Horizon Plaza. Nice selection but rather upscale.

- Vet. Stanley Veterinary Center (2813 2030) is very good. Located below Stanley Pet Station at LG/F, 10 Wong Ma Kok Road, Stanley. They keep track of shots, license and so forth and will send you reminder mailings when the next visit is due. Make sure you follow their advice on worms, fleas and ticks.

- Dog boarding. DB Dog Dayz http://dbdogdayz.com/ in Sai Kung, run by Cara and Andrew Ng. A lovely dog hotel that is very far away from “kennel”. Book early.
