Latex? Spring?
What's your preference - and brand?

Hästens is my fave. Horsehair stuffing and springs. "Continental" style, i.e. "frameless" with a spring mattress on top of a spring frame, topped with a thick mattress pad and finally a mattress protector.
I think frame bed vs. "continental" is more a matter of esthetic preference than comfort.
Expensive up front but given the 30+ year lifetime of the bed it's a pretty good deal. Ours is 12 years old and still feels as comfortable as the day we bought it. It got to the point where I didn't like traveling for work just because I missed sleeping in our awesome bed.

A good alternative to Hastens is Dormirest. Its has also the Horsehair stuffing etc but for lesser money. As the materials & technology is from Holland but the manufacturing is in China. There is a Dormirest shop in Ap Lei Chau, Horizon Plaza. 10F. Just visit the shop myself and am in the process of purchasing one bed & mattress myself

Thanks.... anyone tried a latex... I am buying for my shack in Bali and springs, hair, stuffing etc are the enemy in this climate....

I'm sleeping on a top end Simmons and very comfortable. Very similar to the top end Sealy that is used in Four Seasons worldwide just not as soft. Wondered how these compare to the two mentioned above.

My friend loves his latex. As you say Ed the climate should be considered.
"Very similar to the top end Sealy that is used in Four Seasons worldwide just not as soft."
"Soft" should not be a criterion per se. Depending on your weight there is a "just right" firmness.

If you want to grow mold, you go ahead and buy latex or foam.... It's basically a sponge soaking up the humidity.
Horsehair stuffing might be the solution to this because it does not take up moist.

My friend tried the Kong Koil in Hotel also but could not buy the same mattress from Kong koil. usually, they don't sell the Hotel mattress in store.
I slept on 100% natural latex in Hong Kong. It is very good!
