hi everyone, visiting this forum for quite a while and learning a lot somehow...this time it's my turn to air my query regarding marriage.it's all about a helper where the employer(both single) proposed to marry her but now is thinking whether they can get married in hk while they are under the contract as helper-employer case.is this going to be a problem? is there such a law in hk which tells NOT to marry your helper? :) another thing is,will they be facing a problem after getting married in hk or elsewhere when they cut the contract and apply for a new visa for the wife? i hope i didn't make u guys dizzy in reading this Q? advice pls...tnx!

it's not a problem to marry
you might have to prove to the immigration dept that the marriage is genuine before they issue a dependant visa

[UPDATE] Please note that fee quotes stated in historic postings may be out-of-date.
There is no restriction against marrying a domestic helper; a relationship under a helper-employer contract does not fall within Schedule 5 of the Marriage Ordinance, which stipulates under which circumstances a marriage shall be void and null in Hong Kong.
This will take some time and therefore one must be careful as to when the helper resigns from her current contract. The spouse may apply for his new wife to join him/her in Hong Kong with residence as a dependant.
