Current job market for recent grads?

Hello everyone!

I know this question has been posted a LOT. But from searching the forums, I have not found a recent thread after the financial debacle of last years and years before.

I will be graduating with a double degree, in Economics and Finance, with a very high (3.8/4.0) GPA.

I will be graduating with 6 years of work experience, 3 of those being in Marketing and office/data related fields in one company.

SO, I ask the wonderful, insightful, business-minded friends at AsiaXPat - What are my chances?

Should I bank on getting married to my girlfriend of HK descent, and getting a Dependant Visa? Or do I stand a chance AT ALL of getting a work visa?

Regardless of answers, I am going to pound resumes out to every possible job opening until I get something. I'd just like to hear your thoughts on the current job situation, and on my situation.

In advance, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your comments :) They are really appreciated.

Best regards,

Jonathan

Just to add - I speak Native English (from USA), SOME Cantonese, and limited Mandarin. :) Thanks!

Well your some Cantonese and limited Mandarin would be pretty much useless apart from giving your colleagues a few cheap laughs. The rest of your credentials are solid but nothing that will make you stand out from the pack to HK employers.

I say, get a job in the US with a MNC, work hard for a few years and get a transfer to HK on expat terms. Any other approach would be difficult and financially challenging.

MJ1 -

Thank you very much for your sound advice :)

I appreciate your insight, and I think you're right. Do I really stand out from the pack? Not at this point. I will definitely consider your idea of working with a MNC here in the US, and going over some years later.

Thanks again for the great advice, I appreciate it!

Best regards,

Jonathan
