Hi,
I'm pllanning a 10 day trip in October and would like to go to Thailand. I can't make up my mind on where exactly to go. I' m looking for a child friendly place, kids activities as i have a 4 yo and a 1 yo. We like to go to the beach but i am interested in experiencing the local culture so not interested in getting stuck in a big resort. We'd like to see elephants if possible. Also a direct flight from HK as we don't want to spent to long travelling.

Phuket ticks all the boxes except you would probably be stuck in a large resort.
Our last trips to Thailand we stayed in the Centara both in Koh Samui and Krabi both child friendly and walking distance to local conveniences ie restaurants etc but far enough to be relaxing.

Krabi is such a great choice for family vacation. There are many activities to do such as travel in Krabi town, elephant trekking camp, shell cemetery, and sea kayaking at Hong Island or travel to following islands nearby Krabi. I would recommend Krabi Chada hotel and resort on Ao nang beach which close to Ao nang (Pranang Bay) the famous travel point of Krabi.

I would recommend Krabi and Koh Samui. There is daily direct flight from HK to Samui. Flight is under three hours. Samui is more developed than Krabi, the whole island is covered by coconut trees in the middle, and surrounded by beaches. High end, luxurious brands include Four Seasons, Ritz, Banyan Tree, W, Conrad, Seven Senses. We stayed at a very nice 4 bedroom beach front villa located in a gated five-star resort. I would recommend phuket (check it out holiday inn phuket, they have a very nice kids suite). If i take my kds on vacation, i prefer the nearest hospital is reachable. Phuket has international hospital, while krabi and koh samui dont (they're pretty remote tho). Hope it helps :)
