Soho/Central-Sai Kung Taxi

ORIGINAL POST

Having a night out in Soho (probably very late!) and will need to get back to Sai Kung ... where's the best place to get a taxi from to take me back there (assume that no 'island' taxi will take me all that way?) Or does anyone have a number that I can call to order one when I'm ready to leave? Thx!

Thanks cara! But why is it so many times I've seen people refused when they want to go over to Kowloon side and the taxi won't take them? So are you saying that ANY red taxi should take me to Sai Kung, whether it's a 'Kowloon' taxi, or an 'island' taxi? If I just put my bum in the seat and refuse to move, do they have to take me?? Just don't want to be left stranded alone late at night when all my friends decide it's time to go home:-(

Well, as it happens, I ended up not having to get a taxi on Friday night (thankfully!).

But, for future reference, (as I am now even more confused!), are you saying that I need to get a Kowloon taxi, or an Island taxi?? Which one is most likely to take me to Sai Kung? And how do I know which one is which, as they are both red?!

I've always assumed that if the 'For Hire' sign is covered, then the taxi isn't for hire anyway?

These statements seem to contradict each other ...

Truehkwoman - "you need to get the taxi with the covered card"

cara - "if they do not have their sign covered, then they canNOT legally turn you down. IF they have their sign covered, then they CAN legally turn you down."

cara - "if you get into a red taxi, they MUST take you to your destination, no matter where it is... that is the law. (so long as they do not have the card covering their sign). if they have their sign covered, then, yes, they can turn you down. although, most of them will not and you are right, it IS cheaper as they are originally from the other side of the harbour."

Truehkwoman - "Most of them will turn you down if you require them going to the other side if there is the card covered."

Sorry, maybe it's just me being thick!LOL But can someone please tell me for definite which taxi I can get from Central back to Sai Kung ... Kowloon taxi (with or without sign covered?) or Island taxi? Thanks!

Actually, I'd have no problem paying for the round trip toll, as I understand that is required, unless I get a cab from a cross-harbour stand. As long as I can get home, that's fine!

cara - thanks for the link to the taxi info ... all is now clear!:-)

By the way, does anybody know how to leave Saikung by taxi in the first place? I moved to Saikung 2 months ago and I am not able to get a taxi to come pick me up at my home (Ho Chung Village)!? The main street bus stops are populated with queues of people waiting and waiting ... and taxis are nowhere to be found especially in the morning 8-10! When I call the many numbers I've got, they all tell me to wait, then normally after few minutes they call back saying "Sorry, no taxi"!!!
