Fluff piece of "journalism." Not a single number given for number of expats coming, going or staying. Just, "Since 2006, British expatriates in Hong Kong have fallen sharply," which was cribbed from the SCMP.

This is poor reporting at least and journalistic sensation at best. There are many factors contributing to the so-called exodus of expats. The number of expats that permanently settle in HK is small. Most at some point leave due to change of jobs, or children having gone away to college or retirement to home countries.

Number of British expats down? This may have something to do with the fact that - since the handover - Brits are no longer automatically entitled to a work visa. This means others do not automtacially come into replace the ones who left (even though the article says since 2006 this will still be a lagging factor).

My very unscientific tally of the number of expats taken by walking along Wyndham Street and Soho on any given night of the week seems to contradict the article.
What do they all do?????

yes, spot on wht. the w/ankers have gone but there are still a lot of the filth (you know what i mean) here mainly in wanchai. the old/er british ones. totally out of order mostly. should have been deported ages ago. but this place is becoming less 'white' now more than ever, and i find it so very racist now than ever before. i wish there was reverse migration policies in place and our 'white'? countries would be the same as china/hk/india etc!
