VISA advice...what are my chances??

I've recently accepted a job in HK for a new company and am going through the VISA forms, was wondering what you thought of my chances and had any advice as I'm unsure...

Here are the facts:

I'm coming from the UK, I don't have a degree or any educational certificates but have a letter from my school confirming attendance and exams etc.

I have 6 years+ experience in my specific industry, and have job reference letters from former MD's to prove this.

I have a job offer in HK in a job initially paying about $370,000HKD per annum

What do you think??

Just go ahead man, you've already accepted the offer right? You'll never know for sure until it's done but I personally think there's no problem there.

I kind of think that equivalent experience and skill can be used instead of degree. All the best. (please let us know the good news, will you?)

Be Prepared -

(1) you need your employer to say they searched high and low and could not find anyone local to do the job. A letter from a headhunter saying this, perhaps mentioning a huge database of resumes that did not match, and copies of newspaper ads that failed to turn up the right candidate are helpful.

(2) you need your employer to vouch that they have mainly local employees. So if the company has 5 staff, cannot be more than 2 sponsored.

The company has been going in HK for around 15 years and have about 50 staff there, a fair few must are sponsored as most of the senior managers there seem to be British and a number of my team must be getting sponsored too.

I have been sponsored by 2 different companies and been successful both times. I only have secondary school certs so I don't see it as a problem. Obviously each case is different but I say give it a go.

Good luck to you.

Cool. I hope you're getting housing allowance outside of the 370k/yr you've been offered. If not, more than half of your monthly salary will go to rent (depending on where you want to live).

Nope, well not till the bonuses start coming in - I don't want to live in a flat alone though and sharing seems similar to what I pay in London from what I've seen.

Oh well, you will survive and be able to save a lot if you're willing to live modestly.

Welcome to Hong Kong.
