Re: CCKG interview

Hi, my daughter is going to have an interview for K2 at CCKG. Does anyone have any experiences with CCKG? Do I need to prepare her for it?

We have recently relocated from the US to Hong Kong. My daughter used to go to a Christ Church Nursery School in the U.S., and I naively apply for CCKG in Hong Kong without knowing that it is very competitive here. My originally thought was to send her to a preschool with a Christianity belief.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Quite a number of years ago I worked as a teacher in Kowloon Tong and we ran classes to prepare children for the interview. I used to teach 120 children for 84 spaces and that was just at the centre I worked at. It is very competitive however if your child can speak English fluently already it shouldn't be a problem. They will ask a range of questions about family, age, name, and ask the child to talk about a picture. I was also under the impression that they give preference to children that attend Christ Church every Sunday but not entirely sure.

There are a range of other preschools on Hong Kong with religious affiliations too and I am sure they are not all as hard to get into.

Good Luck!

thanks, kitkat. I will let her go for the interview naturally. If she does not get into CCKG, we would find her something else.

CCKG is the MOST competitive kindergarten in HK. Braemar Hill is the other one.

the CCKG here is competitive because it is the belief and traditional belief that if you go to CCKG your chance of getting into the Diocesan's Girls school and Diocesan's Boys school is higher. So far it's been sort of true. But I do know many who sent to CCKG but didn't make it into DGS and DBS.

You definitely don't want to go to this school if you are an expat. It's just my sound advice to you. The parents of other classmates (if you even have a chance to get in) will be shocking to you. It is a VERY good kindergarten though. But it doesn't sound like you have an idea what you are applying for.
