Well, it certainly pays to have them set it up and prove to you that it works. You don't know who you can trust...

Dear Obvious. I'm sorry to hear about your experience with a heartless seller. I definitely was not one and as a matter of fact my kindness had been taken for granted or as been scolded by my husband as foolishly crazy. I sold an isqueeze machine which I haven't used since last summer to this girl who then called to say that it was not working. I was a bit surprised because it worked fine when I used it during the summer which was about 6 months ago, and of course being an honest person, I told her that since I had not used the machine for awhile and failed to try before selling to her, she could bring it back for a refund, however only if because it did not work and not because she changed her mind for any cosmetic reason. She told me that yes the machine did not work because she had tried MANY times, and the cord has tape wound around it. I said I admit there was a tape wound around the cord near the end of the machine but it has worked just without any problem for me. As long as she could plug it in and turn on the machine that should not be the reason for the return, unless the machine was broken which it should not because I had used it during the summer. So she brought the machine back, never told me all along that the cord was burnt by the neck of the plug so that the internal copper wires were exposed and that 1 leg on the plug was so bent that it could not even be stuck into the socket. Well, imagine my shock when I picked up the plug and was about to plug in the wall socket. I couldn't because the legs were askewed and it was still hot! She immediately told me that "it not work!". I told her of course it could not work because you burnt the plug either by plugging it in an over-capacity extension bar or you deliberately burnt my plug and cut the burnt part so that the inside copper wires were exposed (even I couldn't believe my eyes when I see the condition of the cord). Talking about the evil extent that some people would go at destroying things just to take advantage of your kind offer for return!! She then tried to blame on me by saying the cord was already in that condition when she brought the machine home without inspection, and that was why "I told you it not work". I immediately let my maid (who went along with me to see the girl because my maid was the one who wrapped the machine for sale and who said the cord was in perfect working condition, not bent beyond usage like now), as well as the doorman at my building to both feel the plug and they confirmed that it was still warm. I then told my buyer that as a devout buddhist believer I would not lie to or cheat people, that was not how I was brought up. The only reason I was willing to let her return the product was because of my own stupidity in just letting the maid do the packing instead of checking on the machine myself. Therefore, because of my own doubt that the machine might not work due to sitting iddling for too long I was prepared to give her a refund, but how could I now when upon physical inspection the plug was burnt (and still warm when she said she had not used it) beyond repair and could not even be plugged into a socket? She said "I am a Muslim I tell you the truth, I had wasted time and taxi money to your place and I have 2 kids at home, why don't you just paid me back 1/2 of the money considered that I did not check on the machine when buy?". By then I was too fed up with her blatant lie and really I could have called the police because I had 2 witnesses to confirm about the badly damaged plug that was still warm when she said she had not use it at all, but I didn't because I admired her gut for even using her faith to confirm that she had not used the machine, so I gave her $200 and expected a change of $50 but she said she needed to go to the bank for change. Yeah well, by then I felt so disgusted and thought I have had enough of this crap, and fighting over just $50 would make me feel so low and cheap that I just waived her off. Of course, I am now left with a really broken and useless machine and $100 in compensation. Haha. If I had not sold it because feeling that it occupied space in my home, I could still enjoy it comes the next summer when I have time instead of having to throw it away now when I might as well could have put it up for free in the first place. Husband said that I was a fool for even picking up my buyer's call:second-hand things that sold are non-refundable, and if buyer did not inspect it prior to payment, that was their fault. For real, I could have done that; the phone number that I use for trading is not my real number and I could have just ignored her but I asked my husband, aren't we suppose to have moral and conscience? When my buyer called I swear even I had doubt about my machine and did feel bad for selling her something that did not work due to my own negligence in checking the machine prior to selling. I had never anticipate that anyone would go to the extreme of ruining the machine beyond repair so that they could get their money back simply because they did not like it!!! Oh well, a lesson for me here and to all the good sellers out there: caveat vendito...
But hey, I have recovered from my initial anger already. I hope you had too by now, Obvious, for listen to this: if you believe that what goes around comes around, or, one reaps what one sows, the people who do you wrong will receive their bad karma soon. I know for sure because I have seen it worked in some cases. 6041444.
