iPhone 4 bought from Australia

My iPhone 4 is bought from Australia. I dropped and shattered the screen in HK. Went to HK apple store at IFC and was told that they couldn't replace it because it might lock my phone when I put either a HK or Aussie sim in it and that I had to go back to Australia to fix it.


It's it illegal in HK to sim lock iphones? Aren't all iphones unlocked in HK?


So basically I have to buy a ticket to Australia just to replace an iphone? Apple offers ZERO support?!?!


Any suggestions?
